Preservation Rhinoplasty
Preservation rhinoplasty aims to keep selected native nasal structures rather than remove and rebuild them. It is useful for some noses, but not all.
The basic idea
Traditional hump reduction often removes part of the nasal dorsum and then reconstructs a smooth bridge. Preservation concepts aim to lower or reposition structures while preserving more of the patient’s natural bridge when anatomy allows.
Patient selection matters
Preservation is most often discussed for selected primary cases with favorable anatomy. Marked deviation, severe asymmetry, previous surgery, or structural weakness may require a different approach.
Why it can look natural
When chosen appropriately, preserving native lines and ligament support can help maintain a softer, less operated appearance. The surgical plan still has to protect breathing and tip support.
Limitations
Preservation is not a marketing label that fits every patient. It is discussed as one option among open, closed, structural, Piezo, or revision strategies.
Risks and limitations
Risks include incomplete correction, residual hump, asymmetry, breathing problems, swelling, need for conversion to another technique, and revision surgery.
